Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy at Maseno School strives to serve the community by teaching, preaching and taking care of God’s People in body, mind and soul. Our aim and prayer is to ensure that a Maseno person continues to be a person of great integrity and humility in the country and the world at large (Matthew 28:18-20)

WORK-WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

A number of people the world over have a misconception about work and spiritual matters. What is therefore the
Biblical perspective of work.

From the Christian point of view, God gave man work before man even fell into sin. God planted a Garden eastward of
Eden and put man on that land. Adam was then charged by God to look after the garden (Gen 2:8). It is on record in
the same chapter in Genesis that before God created man there was nobody to till the land. This tells us that work
came before sin. Man came with work and should therefore continue working.

                       our rock of ages

Perhaps one might say that work is an Old Testament phenomenon. In the New Testament however, we find quite a lot
about work. Jesus while choosing His Disciples carefully avoided those who were not working, or is it by coincidence
that Peter, John, James, among others were known fishermen in Galilee. Mathew on the other hand was a tax collector.
- These were high profile jobs in those days. Jesus had many people following Him, most of whom were idle, but when
it came to choosing disciples He opted to take those who were at work as opposed to the former.

Apostles Paul, one of the most influential preachers and Writers was a diligent worker. Preacher though he was, he
also found time to work. In 2nd Thessalonians 3:10, He wrote ‘… if any does not work, let him not eat.’ in Galatians
6:7, He writes ‘…God is not mocked for whatever a man sows, that he reaps also. Work is therefore a Biblical virtue.
In Deuteronomy 28:12 the Bible says ‘…and to bless the work of your hands….’ Meaning ‘no work’, ‘no blessing’. It is
mandatory to note that there is a reward for every work done (Revelations 22:12)

Man therefore has a duty and obligation to work. This is Biblical. The parable of the servants who were given
different talents in Mathew 25:14-29, sums it up all. The one who did not work was snatched even the little that he
had, while those who faithfully worked hard were commended, promoted and given more to take care of.

In my opinion therefore even God as merciful as He is does not trust lazy and idle people who do not add value to
what they already have. May God help us all to work according to His will? Maseno is celebrating one hundred years
because of the work started by God fearing people.
